Healing With Comedy is the core practice behind Canadian Look.
It treats humour as something learned, trained, and applied with care—not as a personality trait or a coping trick. This work is about regulation, flexibility, and language: how timing replaces fear, how jokes give shape to pain, and how laughter restores connection without stripping anyone of dignity.
This isn’t about “laughing it off.”
It’s about laughing through—with your feet on the floor and your nervous system intact.
What This Is
A structured, trauma-informed approach to comedy that draws from:
professional comedy training
nervous system awareness
ethical facilitation
and lived experience
The goal isn’t performance.
The goal is capacity—to think more clearly, respond instead of brace, and use humour as a tool rather than a shield.
What This Isn’t
It isn’t stand-up therapy.
It isn’t forced vulnerability.
It isn’t laughter used to bypass grief, anger, or truth.
If something hurts, we don’t rush past it.
We give it language.
Why Canadian Look Exists
Canadian Look is the public home for this work.
It’s where comedy, commentary, and emerging voices live in the open—through shows, segments, and experiments that demonstrate what regulated humour looks like in real time. The channel doesn’t replace the course. It shows the culture that makes the course possible.
When comedy wants to grow, it has somewhere to go.
Shamanism, Trauma & the Comic Body

Before there were textbooks.
Before therapy.
Before the word trauma existed.
People still had trauma.
Kids died. Wars happened. Winters were long. Somebody always stole somebody else’s goat. And every community had that one person who knew how to sit everyone down and help them make sense of it without losing their minds.
They didn’t fix everything.
They didn’t pretend it didn’t hurt.
They helped people carry it.
Sometimes with story.
Sometimes with rhythm.
Sometimes with laughter at exactly the wrong moment — which turned out to be the right one.
That’s what this module is about.
Comedy Didn’t Start as Entertainment
Comedy started as:
tension release
truth-telling with padding
a way to say the unsayable without starting a fight
a signal that it was safe to feel again
Early ritual leaders used parody, exaggeration, and absurdity because those tools let people look at pain sideways.
Not directly.
Not all at once.
Just enough to survive the telling.
That’s still the job.
